Solar Images
The MDI Solar image is good for seeing Sunspots on the face of the Sun.
The 284 Angstrom FeXV (yellow image) image focuses on the Sun's corona.
This image is good for seeing Coronal Holes. Coronal Holes can send Solar
Wind gusts to the Earth and trigger Northern Lights.
The White-Light Coronameter is the only land-based image on this page.
Taken from high atop Mauna Loa in Hawaii, the imager uses a disk to block
out the light from the sun so that you can see the Sun's corona. This
instrument is designed to look at the Sun, please do not try this at home! |
